Akasa Air has appointed Abhishek Gupta as Chief Information Officer (CIO), marking a new addition to the airline’s technology leadership team. Gupta joins Akasa Air following his tenure at Dish TV, where he served as Corporate Head of IT and was involved in technology modernisation, cloud adoption and digital transformation initiatives.
Gupta brings more than two decades of experience spanning IT architecture, technology operations and digital strategy. During his tenure at Dish TV, he joined the company as Vice President of IT in 2015 and was elevated to Corporate Head of IT in 2019. His responsibilities included technology infrastructure, digital operations and the adoption of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence.
Brings Extensive Technology Leadership Experience
Before joining Dish TV, Gupta held technology and management roles at Ericsson and Orange Business Services. At Ericsson, he served as Practice Lead for nearly three years, while earlier in his career he was Head of Corporate IT for the India division at Orange Business Services.
His experience across enterprise IT, infrastructure, digital transformation and technology strategy positions him for a leadership role at Akasa Air, where technology forms an important part of airline operations and the customer experience.
Gupta’s academic background includes an engineering degree from Delhi College of Engineering and an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM-A).
Moves to Akasa Air After Dish TV Tenure
Gupta announced his departure from Dish TV through a LinkedIn post, reflecting on his professional journey and the team he worked with during his tenure.
“There are moments in a professional journey when you pause, look around, and feel grateful for the people and relationships that have shaped the journey. My farewell at Dish TV was one such moment,” Gupta said.
Reflecting on his time at the company, he highlighted the role of collaboration in the organisation’s achievements, noting that the outcomes were a collective effort built on trust, collaboration and the commitment of colleagues.
His move to Akasa Air marks the next phase of a technology career spanning multiple sectors and leadership roles. At the airline, Gupta will take charge of the CIO function, bringing his experience in enterprise technology and digital transformation to a sector where technology is increasingly integrated across operations and customer-facing services.
