The Jalandhar Computers Dealers Association organized a large gathering at a local hotel on August 20, 2025, with its members to discuss business-related matters. The meeting was led by Chairman Rajiv Khanna, with key members including President Supreet Singh, Vice President Shyaml Gupta, Secretary Paras Diwan, Joint Secretary Satish Saini, Treasurer Gaurav Arora, and PRO Mohit Arora.
Considering Prime Minister's announcement on August 15 regarding changes in GST, the association demanded that laptops and computers, being essential for business and education, should be brought under a lower GST tax bracket, reducing the current 18% tax rate.
The second demand was to bring the service sector, including computer repair, software development, website development, and software-related services, under a lower tax bracket. This would promote better services, benefiting consumers and integrating the software development and service sector into the organized sector.
After raising these demands, the association decided to present them to the Punjab Finance Minister during the inauguration of a major IT Expo in Ludhiana on August 22-23. They will request the minister to forward their demands to the central government.
Additionally, on August 23, the association will submit a memorandum to the governing body meeting of the country's IT associations in Ludhiana, attended by members from across India, including Chairman Divesh Rastogi, member of the Industrial Policy Formulation Committee of the Government of India, and President Naveen Gupta. They will ensure that the proposal reaches the GST committee at the central level.
