As per a recent report by Comscore, India is the second-largest online news consuming nation in the world with 282 Mn unique visitors. It states that 90 percent of the users consume news on their mobile phones, spending an average time of 131 minutes on the news websites. 2020 is will be the boom of vernacular content as most of the online news gets consumed in Hindi  (192mn UVs) followed by Marathi (32mn UVs), leaving opportunities as the reach of news aggregators is increasing by a staggering 187 percent in a year.

With online news platforms winning over print mediums, Indians are liking the customized news feeds and interactive formats, especially bite-sized videos. A majority of Indians consume content online while commuting to work or doing daily chores. Further to the digitization of TIER 2 and 3 towns, vernacular content is set to rule the market Indian news apps as people across age groups are shifting to mobile phones as a preferred platform for daily news. Leveraging these aspects, apps like DB Digital, Dailyhunt and LocalPlay are set to rule the market with more users across the country.
