Dassault Systèmes “Manufacturing in the Age of Experience” Focuses on Synchronization of Virtual and Real Time Manufacturing Through 3DEXPERIENCE TWIN

Dassault Systèmes  the 3DEXPERIENCE Company, hosted the second edition of the regional adaptation of the global megatrend event-‘Manufacturing in the Age of Experience’ in Chennai. The event was attended by over hundred representatives from transportation & mobility, industrial equipment, engineering and aerospace & defense companies from the state of Tamil Nadu. Last year, the inaugural edition of the regional adaptation of the global event was hosted in Pune and digitalization of manufacturing was a key focus area. Taking the discussion forward, this year Dassault Systèmes is geared up to further boost Indian manufacturing in their digital transformation journey with the 3DEXPERIENCE TWIN.

Manufacturing has huge potential in India. A recent study by a global consulting firm estimated that the manufacturing sector may form 25-30% of the country’s GDP and make 90 million new domestic jobs by 2025. Alongside, the Government of Tamil Nadu is planning to increase the automobile manufacturing capacity to 5.8 million units by 2020. Inaugurating the event, Samson Khaou, Managing Director India, Dassault Systèmes said, “The purpose of recreating and hosting a megatrend event in India is to reach out to multiple manufacturing hubs across the country, connect with audiences locally and showcase the value of 3DEXPERIENCE platform. Chennai and Tamil Nadu is a major automotive manufacturing hub and we have strong inroads working with major automotive OEMs and suppliers across the country. The 3DEXPERIENCE platform is a business enabler platform that would complement the automobile policy of the state focusing on future development and consolidation of the automobile and components industry.”

With the emergence of a new business-friendly scenario in the country, today on one hand many new factories are coming up and on the other hand a large number of manufacturing companies are considering installation of production facilities or assembly lines for new product development. However, whether it is a brown field or green field investment, planning from the scratch will be a time consuming affair leading to over expenditure. 3DEXPERIENCE TWIN will drastically cut down the time frame and lead to a substantial cost saving – as it allows the entire planning, simulation, testing and validation in the virtual form. 3DEXPERIENCE TWIN allows manufacturers to design and visualize the entire model of the factory. One can ensure the right allocation of the spaces for their activities- such as machinery, raw material, goods storage, inbound and outbound docking systems and so on. One can also manipulate positioning of the activity spaces and watch its impact on the overall factory operation. Samson also added, “Our focus on the manufacturing sector is widespread complementing initiatives like “Make in India”. We are committed to provide to our customers in the manufacturing sector comprehensive benefits through a 3DEXPERIENCE TWIN model.”

Manufacturing has always been a complex affair and the fast evolving hyper-connected market in an advancing digital age offers numerous challenges to manufacturers. The task is to address these challenges with customers demanding more personalized products, services and experiences. Businesses are ushering in a revolution of manufacturing innovation, transforming from mass production to mass customization. As a result manufacturing is evolving to be more creative with new business models for cost-effective mass customization.  They are becoming smart with improved speed, agility and real-time learning; more value driven- connecting value streams end-to-end from ideation through manufacturing to ownership and are becoming human- empowering collaboration and augmenting creativity.

Addressing the audience at the event Olivier Lahaye, Vice President, WW, DELMIA, Dassault Systèmes said, “The digitalization of manufacturing sector brings new opportunities for collaboration, usage of big data analytics, real-time data acquisition and digital continuity from ideation to design to production and even to ownership. Global Companies like Cummins, Airbus, Alstom&Valeo are already benefiting by adapting 3DEXPERIENCE platform and DELMIA for digitalizing their manufacturing processes. With digital technologies businesses can drive value, meet market demands and deliver unique, one-to-one experiences for everyone and be future ready.”

Addressing the audience and discussing about global alliances in manufacturing, Denis GEORGEON, WW, VP Consulting Alliances, Dassault Systèmes said, “Leading consulting firms recognize Dassault Systèmes as a leader in disruptive manufacturing solutions worldwide because the 3DEXPERIENCE platform available on premise and on cloud enables our customers to create delightful experiences for their consumers by offering end-to-end engineering, manufacturing and business capabilities. From modeling manufacturing operations to connecting the supply chain; the 3DEXPERIENCE platform offers agility and delivers Digital Manufacturing, Manufacturing Operations Management and Supply Chain Planning & Optimization.”

Dassault Systèmes also showcased a 3DEXPERIENCE playground with demonstrations of -

Interactive Shop Floor & Live Monitoring – Connect virtual with real world with live monitoring of shop floor activities through the virtual twin of factory resources and material flows.

Human Task Experience: Ergonomics is key for ensuring safety and comfort in performing manufacturing tasks by humans. Evaluation of these aspects in physical world is expensive. Virtual study of human tasks on shop-floor will help in assessing and improving the safety and comfort in manufacturing operations.

Manufacturing Operations Management – Better manage & monitor in real time manufacturing operations (Production, Quality, Maintenance & Warehouse) through a strong integration with shop floor equipment and perfect synchronization across departments.

Additive Manufacturing: Additive manufacturing, also known as 3D printing, is an alternative to production processes such as milling, melting, casting and precision forging. 3D Printing is having wide spread usage in all fields be it automotive, aerospace, life science, industry equipment etc. 3D Printing is creating a new paradigm in innovative product development. This helps reduce waste and costs associated with the manufacturing of complex parts and at the same time it helps by improving strength or performance of the given part.
