British Council Hosts UK Minister at Discussion on ‘Future of Ed Tech in India’

British Council hosted Sam Gyimah, MP, Minister of State for Universities, Science, Research and Innovation, UK; and Stefan Dercon, Former Chief Economist of the Department of International Development (DFID) and Mr. Toby Phillips, Head of research and policy from Pathways for Prosperity, along with eminent personalities from the education space to discuss the future of Education Technology (Ed Tech) in India.

Experts, along with Alan Gemmell OBE, Country Director – India, British Council, discussed the pivotal role that Ed Tech can play in supporting and strengthening the education system in the country. The discussions covered the challenges in scaling up Ed Tech in India, along with the various avenues it opens for potential learners.

At the conference, the Minister interacted with scholars from across disciplines who have received multiple scholarships for pursuing higher education in top UK universities.

The Ed Tech space in India is poised for exponential growth, giving access to millions of students to better education, self-learning and development. As per a Google-KPMG report, the online education industry in India is poised to grow eight times to become a GBP 1.48 billion industry by 2021 as an increasing number of students consume content through e-routes.
