Facebook Introduces Parent's Portal to Boost Safety Center Features

Every day, parents come to Facebook to ask for advice in Groups, share pictures of their kids or just stay connected with family in different places. And for many parents, they also have questions about how Facebook works once their kids join.

To help parents get the most out of their experience and help their child navigate their experience, Facebook has launched the Parent’s Portal in collaboration with parents, teens and safety experts around the world. Facebook recently updated its Safety Center and Bullying Prevention Hub and now it introduced a Parent's Portal, which provides parent specific advice as part of the Safety Center.

Facebook's Parent's Portal includes guides for parents about how Facebook works, tips for talking with your kids about staying safe online and resources from experts around the world. It includes guides for parents about how Facebook works, tips for talking with your kids about staying safe online and resources from experts around the world. It is available in over 55 languages, including 11 in India, is mobile friendly and includes step-by-step videos. Content includes:

  • Facebook basics: how to sign up, find friends, post and share – and familiarize yourself with Facebook’s policies and tools, as well as some best practices.
  • Parenting Tips: Review our tips for having a successful conversation with your child about online safety.
  • Expert Advice: Connect with online safety experts from around the world who offer resources for parents.

Ankhi Das, Public Policy Director, India, South and Central Asia, Facebook: “Keeping our community safe is core to everything we do. People will only come to Facebook if it's a safe place to connect and share with the people they care. The Parent's Portal responds to feedback we have received about a knowledge gap among parents about our safety policies, tools and resources. With the new Safety Center and Parent's Portal, we worked with safety experts and local partners to develop content that resonates with our community.”

Dr. Anjlee Prakash, MD, Learning Links Foundation: “As parents we need to take the time to understand how our children are using technology and how we can help keep them safe online. We’re pleased to partner with Facebook on the latest addition to its Safety Center – a Parent’s Portal which includes guides for parents about how Facebook works and tips for talking with your kids about making the right choices online. Starting a conversation and building mutual trust with your children is critical to keeping them safe online.”

Dr. Ranjana Kumari, Center for Social Research India: “I am glad that Facebook has now taken up this initiative to help the parents and of course, for their young audiences. Parenting in today’s digital world can be tough, especially when our kids typically know more than we do. Facebook’s Parent’s Portal is a great resource for parents who are looking to learn and work with their children to help keep them safe online. We’re pleased to partner with Facebook on these resources and offer help to parents in India through our Social Surfing initiative.”
