Kwan Entertainment has successfully made its identity in Indian Market and rapidly growing towards success. Mr. Anirban Blah Founder & MD of Kwan Entertainment and Marketing Solutions Pvt Ltd exclusively shared his views about their recent acquisition of Gigstart, Growth and upcoming plans with Digital Terminal. Below are the views:
Q. What are your opinion about technology and its impact on your business?
A. We had been looking for something technology driven – businesses around the world have seen a paradigm shift into a digitally governed phase. Thus, we took the plunge into this space. When looking at the nature of higher scalable business service industries such as banking for instance, one must be a high net worth individual to receive personalized banking amenities unlike the olden days.I really felt the same thing is going to happen in the business of entertainment, where technology will disrupt even entertainment.
Q. How do you see your recent acquisition of Gigstart?
A. In the past couple of years, we’ve seen Gigstart grow and develop and since its nascent stage, we unanimously believed that it was a product with immense potential. In this age of endless amenities and luxury, we see a dire demand of people wanting to book talent of varied calibre and price points. The essence of Gigstart is providing reliable entertainment solutions. Our business model is similar to UrbanClap but at a higher price point where the goal is not to create competition for artist managers but to open up a market for talented individuals to increase their reach.
Initially with Gigstart, a majority of the business was coming from the Northern and Western region of India. After the takeover by KWAN, Gigstart has established a pan-Indian presence. Today, a large number of bookings are being made from across the country. Some of the most popular talent being booked are singers, followed by musicians and bands. At present, there are over 4,500 artists present on the platform and more than half of them are booked every month.
Q. How Gigstart will help event planners more effectively?
A. One of the greatest impediments in any field is lack of transparency and lack of transparent market places. How can you guarantee that the artist will show up, that the performance will be good? How can you ensure that payments will come in and the artist won’t be cheated? On Gigstart the availability is there, nothing is hidden. If you don’t pay the price, you’re blacklisted as a buyer and if the artist does not show up, they’re blacklisted as a seller. The price of unprofessionalism is to not have access to the market opportunities. I think what we’re trying to do is solve the flaws in the market.
To find more professional event management solutions or artists and topush the artists to become more professional, this kind of transparency only comes about with the disruptive power of technology. To an event planner, a reliable delivery is most important. On the platform, there’s no opacity regarding availability, costs etc. and the rating system helps event planners be more sound about their decision while booking an artist.
Q. What will be your marketing and promotion plan to reach your valuable customers?
A. At this point is Gigstart largely focused on building relationships, think of it as a substitute for UrbanClap. UrbanClap provides human services at a thousand rupee average sales price, we work for the same at five thousand rupees sales price. That includes any sort of creative talent in the reach of five thousand rupees an hour, which can be someone from a magician in a birthday party to a celebrity making a guest appearance at a corporate event.
We just went live with the Gigstart app and launched it about a month ago. Right now, the focus is on artist on boarding and we’re at about 5000 artists. Starting November, we will focus on marketing and populating the marketplace on the buyer side.
Q. What all investment you are planning for company to boost your digital presence?
A. At KWAN, we’ve already acquired Gigstart and our lead investors in Gamezop which is India’s hottest gaming company. We continue to look for consumer facing opportunities where we can marry technology and entertainment to provide something compelling to consumers. We could either invest in these opportunities or incubate them ourselves.
Q. What are your targets for next six months?
A. In the next six months, our goal is to build out the team on the technology and marketing side, invest significant resources into marketing and dramatically scale up the number of buyers in the market.
